Uğurcan Orhan, Erdoğan Aslan
Excavations were conducted in 2023 in three distinct areas of the Letoon Sanctuary Theater: Cavea, Orchestra and Stage. The studies undertaken, particularly within the context of the Stage Building, have yielded a variety of contexts, including both stamped and unstamped Rhodian amphorae. In the context of the stratigraphic excavation system, these amphorae were discovered on the floor of the first phase of the stage building and just above the burnt layer. The main focus of the study is the amphorae and stamps. The arrangement of these amphorae and stamps into chronological and analogical groups provides new arguments for the historical first phase of use of the theatre.Following the excavations in 2023 and the discoveries made therein, the objective is to present a range of perspectives, in addition to the limited studies and research that have been conducted to date, particularly with regard to the Letoon Theatre. Another objective of this study is to establish novel arguments regarding the chronological development of the Theatre by determining its lower boundaries through the use of stamped amphorae, which offer specific dates. In a broader perspective, with the new discoveries and finds uncovered, it aimed to contribute to the formation of new ideas regarding the determination of the chronological lower limits of the theatre and the determination of the socio-cultural status of the Letoon Sanctuary, as well as commercial communication and interaction.
