Patients and healthcare workers are at risk of norovirus infection. Nitazoxanide is often given, though data is lacking. Multiplex polymerase chain reaction platforms may yield false-positive results. A quality improvement initiative led to an 84.4% reduction in nitazoxanide utilization and substantial cost savings without compromising patient care or nosocomial infection.
