Abstract

Abortions are a major cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in India. The estimated number of abortions a woman will have throughout her reproductive years is 1–2.6. A 28-year-old woman presenting with abnormal bleeding with crampy lower abdominal pain at 7 weeks of gestation was diagnosed to have a spontaneous abortion by the ultrasound, and she underwent induction of labour with oral misoprostol. The transvaginal ultrasound confirmed complete evacuation of conceptual products. She was discharged with comprehensive abortion care, which includes the provision of information, abortion management and post-abortion care and counselling. In the current paper, we highlight the association between a history of abortion and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in reproductive age women. The association between the MetS and reproductive factors is strong.
