A case of successful surgical management of colonic duplication with pygomelia in a 2‐month‐old dog
J. Hardy, J. Boullenger, B. Cruciani, L. Gros, C. PoncetA 2‐month‐old crossbreed female dog was presented for investigation of multiple congenital malformations, including pygomelia and duplication of the anus. Computed tomography revealed a duplicated colon, a duplicated pelvis with associated supernumerary hind limbs, a perineal hernia and abnormalities of the left kidney and ureter. During surgical exploration, a third ovary with its associated uterine horn was also identified. Surgical management consisted of excision of the duplicated colon and anus, disarticulation of the supernumerary hind limbs and correction of the perineal hernia. Postoperative outcome was favourable, with resolution of dyschezia and only mild residual gait abnormalities. Bilateral medial patellar luxation was subsequently diagnosed and surgically treated, resulting in a good long‐term functional outcome.
