ABSTRACT

This letter presents a compact dual‐polarized rectenna array for 5.8 GHz wireless power transfer (WPT). By integrating U‐shaped defected ground structures (DGSs), the inter‐element spacing is reduced to λ 0 /3 without degrading radiation performance, breaking the conventional λ 0 /2 limit. The cross‐polarized layout provides robust performance against polarization mismatch. Measurements demonstrate approximately 12% higher RF power density per unit area compared to conventional arrays, with stable reception across varying polarization angles. RF power combining reduces rectifier count by 75%. The proposed design is well‐suited for space‐constrained applications in IoT devices, UAVs, and wireless sensor networks.
