Smart window technology has been studied actively because it can simply control optical property of window by external power. Among various smart window technology, a phase grating liquid crystal (LC) device shows outstanding properties such as clear off state, high haze in on state, and no viewing angle dependence. Although it can have excellent optical performance, an LC phase grating device requires complicated pattern electrode structure on both top and bottom substrate. To make the device in cost effectiveness, it is required that simple and cost saving design of LC cell is essential.
In this presentation, we will introduce our recent progress in LC phase grating smart window. Based on the optimal LC cell design, a trade‐off between performance and cost was minimized while maintaining the advantages of previously researched phase grating LC smart window.
