Quantum Dots (QDs) are widely accepted for use in contemporary displays. However the current application mainly remains limited to enhancing liquid crystal displays (LCD), and recently organic light emitting devices (OLED), by a limited margin. A topical question is what holds QDs from contributing to other display applications and what role can QDs play in the future of display technology? Will we soon see self‐emissive QD displays and if so, how feasible is QD color conversion for microLED displays? What are the limitations and the benefits of both? The article challenges the state‐of‐the‐art QD technology for QD color conversion and the current development timeline.
