28.1: Invited Paper: A Review of Optical source by using μLED and Single mode Laser Diodes for HMD, AR/VR Glasses

Expansion of devices to access the virtual world is expected due to much attention to Metaverse in recent years. In particular, head mount display (HMD), smart glasses and AR glasses have been attracting attention as next‐generation mobile devices that will replace smart phones. Laser diodes and μLEDs are developed in various research institutes and companies as light sources for those devices. In this paper, we describe the development status of the laser diodes and the μLEDs, the technical problems of optimal adaptation to smart glasses, and introduce one of the solutions when using the laser diodes.
