2. Pacific Region

Fabio Buitrago, Peltier Barahona

The second chapter provides more details specific to the Pacific Ocean, including geology and oceanography of the Pacific Ocean, tides, currents, winds, etc. It then moves on to describing the more relevant ecosystems that can be found underwater, and highlights the more common species of biodiversity that can be observed. Additionally, the chapter includes information on the migration of humpback whales along the Central American coast, the turtle nesting phenomena, and efforts that have been put in place to replenish the marine biomass, such as artificial reefs. The chapter ends with a description of each of the protected areas located on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua.
