1. Introduction

The book starts by explaining how the Nicaraguan territory was formed, including the movement of tectonic plates, geology, and geomorphology topics. It then continues to describe the first naturalists or observers that transited by the national territory, documenting aquatic organisms mostly before the 19th century. Following the content shifts to listing the more relevant scientists that have contributed to the knowledge of Nicaragua´s submerged patrimony, as well as the first divers who documented the beauty and diversity of the underwater world within the country´s territory.
