Abstract:Objective To examine the impact of ultra-processed food intake on bone health in older adults and to propose practical intervention strategies. Methods A narrative review was conducted on the definition of ultra-processed foods, nutritional risks in older adults, skeletal vulnerability, and related mechanistic evidence. Results Ultra-processed foods are characterized by high energy density, low nutrient density, and a wide range of additives. In older adults, long-term intake may impair bone health through nutritional dilution, increased sodium-phosphorus load, disturbed calcium-phosphorus homeostasis, chronic low-grade infl ammation, enhanced oxidative stress, and progression of sarcopenia, thereby reducing bone density and increasing fracture risk. Conclusion Bone health management in older adults should be promoted through coordinated action in food environment governance, community nutrition support, family meal reconstruction, clinical comprehensive assessment, and research evidence accumulation to support healthy aging.
