Abstract:Taking art therapy as the starting point, aesthetic experience and creativity cultivation can effectively improve college students' comprehensive literacy. At present, in the traditional teaching of watercolor courses at domestic universities, most teachers merely focus on the imparting of knowledge and techniques while neglecting the cultivation of students' creative thinking, resulting in a general lack of innovative spirit among students.Art therapy integrates aesthetic value and psychological counseling functions, which complements watercolor art perfectly and makes up for the deficiencies of traditional teaching. On the other hand, the rigid teaching mode and single educational dimension of current watercolor teaching restrict students' emotional expression, failing to provide guidance on their psychology and spirit. As a combination of aesthetic value and psychological counseling, art therapy works well with watercolor art and offers new ideas to break the predicament of traditional teaching. For this reason, this paper mainly explores the teaching reform and content design of university watercolor courses from the perspective of art therapy. It first expounds the core concepts and application logic of art therapy as well as the healing value of watercolor painting. Combined with the current situation and existing problems of watercolor teaching in Chinese universities, this paper constructs a teaching system of watercolor courses suited to the physical and mental development characteristics of college students, and explores teaching approaches that integrate skill training, psychological healing and aesthetic education. It aims to provide theoretical references and educational ideas for the reform of watercolor aesthetic education in universities.
