Abstract：Objective To explore the application effect of a swallowing therapy device combined with swallowing function training in elderly patients with dysphagia requiring nasogastric tube placement, as well as its impact on the incidence of complications.Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 50 elderly patients with dysphagia who had indwelling gastric tubes and were admitted to our hospital from January 2024 to January 2026. Twenty-five patients who received routine swallowing function training from January 2024 to March 2025 were selected as the control group; another 25 patients who received routine swallowing function training combined with swallowing therapy instrument treatment from April 2025 to January 2026 were selected as the observation group. The intervention outcomes were compared between the two groups. Results The observation group showed better efficacy in swallowing function improvement and nutritional indicators (albumin, prealbumin) compared to the control group, while the duration of nasogastric tube placement, swallowing recovery time, and total complication rate were lower than those of the control group (P < 0.05 ). Conclusion Combining a swallowing therapy device with functional training can improve swallowing ability in elderly patients with dysphagia, shorten the duration of nasogastric tube placement, enhance nutritional status,and reduce complications, making it worthy of clinical promotion.
