Abstract:Bayberry, a distinctive economic tree species in China, thrives in Jinzao Town, the primary bayberry production hub in eastern Guangdong with a cultivation legacy spanning six centuries. Notably, renowned varieties like "Wusu Bayberry" stand out in the sector. Currently, Jinzao Town's bayberry industry stands at a pivotal juncture, transitioning from conventional to contemporary practices. Challenges include low production standardization, sluggish cold chain logistics development, inadequate industrial chain expansion, and limited brand influence. Drawing on field research and literature, this study examines the industry's foundational development and resource conditions. It identifies key constraints impeding industry progress in production technology, industrial chain, brand establishment, and assurance mechanisms. This study introduces an approach to development that integrates technological empowerment, supply chain expansion, brand enhancement, and innovation in mechanisms. The focus is on establishing a standardized production system suitable for the hilly terrain of Lingnan, integrating Chao-Shan food culture to create a unified model for the three industries, implementing a brand strategy that merges geographical indications with cultural intellectual property rights (IPs), and introducing a risk-sharing mechanism that combines finance, insurance, and orders. The aim is to present practical strategies for the transformation and advancement of the distinctive fruit industry in the eastern region of Guangdong Province, while also providing theoretical insights for the development of distinctive agriculture in southern hilly areas.
