Abstract:Elderly patients are prone to developing intractable chronic wounds characterized by persistent inflammatory activation, accumulated oxidative stress injury, retarded granulation tissue growth and blocked epithelial regeneration. Conventional gauze dressings and routine antibacterial dressing changes only provide basic wound cleansing and protection, failing to ameliorate the unique chronic inflammatory microenvironment of elderly wounds and break the vicious cycle of sustained inflammation and arrested tissue repair. In this randomized controlled trial, bedridden elderly patients with grade Ⅱ–Ⅲ refractory wounds were treated with a novel composite biological dressing. The clinical wound repair efficacy, healing rate, wound condition, inflammatory and oxidative stress indicators as well as clinical safety were compared between patients receiving conventional dressings and the novel dressing. The results demonstrate that compared with traditional treatment, the novel composite biological dressing significantly promotes granulation and epithelial regeneration, alleviates local oxidative stress imbalance, suppresses persistent chronic inflammation, reduces secondary wound damage, and exhibits superior overall safety.
