文化传播视域下英文教材中国文化元素编排现状及教学改进——以《中国文化概况》为例(The Current Status and Pedagogical Improvement of the Arrangement of Chinese Cultural Elements in English Textbooks from the Perspective of Cultural Communication:A Case Study of A Glimpse of Chinese Culture)

Abstract: English textbooks on Chinese culture are an important medium in univeristy English teaching for presenting Chinese culture, cultivating intercultural communication competence, and improving students’ ability to interpret Chinese culture. The second English edition of A Glimpse of Chinese Culture, edited by Liao Huaying, covers history, literature, art, science and technology, architecture, tourism, and other fields. It has a relatively complete structure, standardized translation of terms, and value for both knowledge learning and language accumulation. However, the textbook also has some limitations, such as a relatively single narrative perspective, insufficient coverage of modern Chinese culture, inadequate design of language output tasks, and limited exploration of the deeper spirit of Chinese culture. Therefore, teaching should strengthen intercultural comparison, supplement materials related to the new era, optimize output tasks and evaluation methods, and guide students to move from learning cultural knowledge to developing cultural expression and communication competence.
