对外传播视域下澳门文旅文本英译实践研究(English Translation Practices for Macao’s Cultural and Tourism Texts: An International Communication Perspective)

Abstract: Macao cultural and tourism texts serve tourism services, cultural explanation and city image building. In a multilingual and multicultural setting, the English translation of scenic spot names, public signs, tourist guides and promotional texts should not be limited to literal equivalence. Based on previous studies of Macao public signs, world heritage site names, tourist guides and multilingual linguistic landscape, this paper discusses major problems and practical strategies. It argues that translation should be guided by text function and reader reception. Existing names with stable recognition should be respected, while necessary cultural background should be added in clear and natural English.
