Theory of the Dingle factor due to dislocations

VI. L. Ginsburg, A. O. Maksimov

We study the effect of the long-range part of the dislocation potential on the decrease of the magnetic moment oscillation amplitude, i.e. on the de Haas-van Alphen effect. It is shown that the formula for the Dingle factor proposed by Watts ξd=〈exp{ih∫0Tπu(r(τ))dτ}〉 where TLaris the Larmor period, μ(r) is the dislocation potential, and τ is the “magnetic time” describing the electron motion along a classical orbit in the magnetic field, is valid provided kL2⪢R where k is the electron wave vector, L is the average distance between dislocations, and R is the Larmor radius.
