REALIZATION OF A UBIQUITOUS NETWORK ON THE JINI NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE

The global social structure has transformed from an Agrarian Society to an Industrial Society. The world is forming an Information Society and seeking more prosperity now. New ubiquitous computing networks are emerging and having a profound impact on every aspect of modern social and industrial life. The Internet now has a global reach and new media are emerging. The background to this paper is the fact that new and emerging information technologies (IT) are greatly altering the structure of the Japanese IT Industry. That is, mega-competition has emerged in IT markets because of the telecommunications big bang (deregulation), globalization, and the convergence of the home electronics, computing, and communications markets. Other factors, such as hardware and software price erosion and the new and emerging technological seeds of venture companies, are bringing profound changes to the IT industry in Japan. The background to this paper is the fact that a new technology called "ubiquitous computing network" has now emerged as a new and most advanced technology also in Japanese IT market. Dr. Mark D. Weiser of Xerox Palo Alto Research Center advocates the terminology called "ubiquitous computing" in 1991 The "ubiquitous computing network" is a network in which any embedded microprocessors found in automobiles, cell phones, and other intelligent home life electronic equipment, are connected to the global Internet network and communicate with each other. The network is very flexible when compared to a conventional network, which is rigid, hierarchical, and centralized. This paper presents an interesting example of application of JINI ubiquitous computing network composed of MindStorm intelligent robots.
