Primary Hydatid Disease of the Spine
Shyam Kalola, Deepthi S. Johnson, Ranjan Kumar WadhwaAbstract
Hydatid disease itself is a rare condition and accounts for one to two in one lakh cattle-raising populations in endemic regions. The possibility of spinal hydatid disease should be considered a differential diagnosis in spinal cord compression syndrome in endemic regions. The treatment is surgical decompression coupled with anti-helminthic therapy. Recurrence is common, while retention of spinal stability is the prime concern on a long-term basis.
